Lionel MESSI and Gonzalo HIGUAIN comment

Lionel MESSI and Gonzalo HIGUAIN both spoke to the press following the match.

MESSI spoke about the fans, the match and the free kick. Here is what he had to say:

"The important thing is that we won. It was key to get this win. This WCQ are very difficult. The fans are fully behind us now."

"I'm happy that the Argentina fans are treating me with a lot of love. It happened at River, at Cordoba, today here in Mendoza. I'm happy that Argentina fans are treating me like Barcelona fans treat me."

About Uruguay:
"Uruguay were tight at the back and they had their very dangerous options up front."

MESSI spoke about the free kick:
"I took a gamble with that free-kick and luckily for me the wall jumped and the ball went in."

Here is what Gonzalo HIGUAIN had to say:
"It was tough to break them down. Uruguay are a great team who won Copa America and did well in the World Cup. We were patient and we are very happy with the match we played. Now we have to get some rest and think about Chile."

It was always like that availabilty of Talent has never been a pblm for us, but How to utilize it was always the pblm, No team can be built with adding superstars after Superstars, Sometimes some Hardworking non attitude players also is needed. Its upto the coach after all, Whether he can handle and keep all the Super stars happy then No Pblm, If Sabella takes Tevez then that will be for a reason, Sabella knows exactly what he will be doing he will know about the consequenses which Tevez may bring and the Positives he may bring too. So lets see.

And guys well well its 3 matches already without Sosa on pitch for a single minute, Could we beleave that SOSA,, How did Sabella do it. it must have been really Tuff for him. thanks to Messi for insisting to hold to the Fantastic 4. Atleast its a Gurantee when we play with Fantstic 4 leave all the defencive weakess it may bring but Goals r almost sure shoat. but with Sosa hmm dont think soooo.

Here's the positive of the Tevez situation: the way things are going is that when there's a push to get Tevez into the squad right before the WC, Sabella--who's gotten the best out of Messi, di María, Lavezzi and Agüero--will be able to refuse it.

How many other NTs in the world could exclude the talent of Tevez? Spain and maybe Germany are the only ones that come to mind. Not Portugal, not Holland, not England.

Sosa and Bran~a are looking like they are fading away from starting spots.. If so, it was smart to use them. Sabella used them as the glue to hold the new players (to him) and then once he got them all gelled, he drops the glue and replaces it with other superstars.. too many superstars competing for glory could have been an ego battle. Smartly played in my book.. just keep them in the bench Sabella!! as subs for hurt players I am ok with both.. they are decent enough.

I agree with @el principe For us we can say Brana, Sosa, Maxi, to be replaced but Sabella is happy with them so we too must be happy. And i too think Sabella keeps calling names randomely but never had played them till now and later drop them thats unfair for me. Augusto Fernandez were is he, Biglia, Collocinni (Injured so no complaints) Matiaz Roderiguez(Again called back) and ofcourse the crowd favourite Erik lamela too have been selected and dropped after one match. Atleast keep selecting them in 24 but dropping from 24 and keep calling maxi and Brana is unfairrr..

that is where in the long run, we will be facing or having headaches, point 1, this team has been producing, but with more or less same players, if God forbid, we lose three or four to longterm injuries will the back-ups be able to stand up, cause thus far Sabella has been calling up different back-ups for every match and they are not really tested on the front, *just thinking out loud*, we need to start assembling the squad that will do duty in 2014.
it is unethical to not have used a Pastore or Riquelme(these are just examples)during the qualifying rounds and when the time comes about in Brazil, we include them in our preliminary or final squad...

Well name one player who deserves to be excluded among our 24 players called? For us yes the likes of Sosa, Maxi, Perez are not good enough to be back ups, but for Sabella, they have done nothing wrong to be excluded. So I don't think with the victory against Uruguay and especially if we do well against Chile, we'll see any changes.

If there is any change, it won't be for any quality players, it will be just for hard worker domestic based players.

the current squad is obviously the "trusted" Sabella core...if we have to call-up a squad for a friendly and not use most of the current squad, how will your team look like? Here goes mine: GK`s: Esteban Andrada, Damian Martinez, Oscar Ustari - DEF: German Pezzela, Nicolas Otamendi, Fabrizio Collocini,Nicolas Burdisso, Cristian Ansaldi, Emiliano Insua - Claudio Yacob, Lukas Biglia, Allejandro Faurlin, Javier Pastore, Nicolas Gaitan, Lucho Gonzales, Jonas Guttierez, Ricardo Alvarez, Ever Banega - Diego Buonanotte, Erik Lamella, Lisandro Lopes, Franco di Santo and Juan Iturbe....A Country full of Talent indeed!!!

For now we r fine but will adding Tevez completely ruin our team i dont think so, not argueing its different choices some may not like some players some may, End of day we all wanna see us winning which we r doing now, So no Complaints.

well done to the lads and tech staff, on a decent campaign that seems to be getting better and better.
is Lisandro Lopes who plays for Lyon and is a proven hardworker and goalpoacher with all the clubs and for the few minutes he has played for the NT, really that bad not to get a look into this squad? i am of the opinion that he would add, great value to this squad, just as 25 other names i can mention...but for now we winning so it does not really matter.

Ofcourse @sulav we need back Ups Barcos for now is the one he sees to be a Gud One he seems to be comfortable in doing one two passes and is strong , lisandro is another One, then Offcourse Tevez is there i would take him as Back up but will he sit in Bench thats were the pblm is, but he defenetly is a great choice to be a back up. its upto Sabella will he select tevez if he performs great and will tevez want to play for us again Never Knowww,Now i cant tell wheather he may have bettered his attitude or not, no one here cant, either. For now Barcos cando the job.

Guyz mark my word..As of now Tevez is saying he doesn't want to be in N/T but right before world cup begins he tries to sneak in N/T through media or something just because he is popular. I donot like his attitude and I donott want him no where near N/T.

Tevez in the NT is nothing but poison, the man's attitude is way too detrimental for the tight unit that is in the process of forming now. Licha, Martinez, Barcos are all potential substitutes for the #9 position and the likes of Pastore, Moralez, Gaitan are able to substitute the likes of Di-maria or (god forbid) messi if need be.

With the Fab 4 out there Masch, and Gago become key, because in open play people like di maria higuian Aguero will track back, but on the counter attack its primarily up to Gago and more importantly Mascherano to break up the counter attack before it reaches our slow yet now somewhat formidable back line.

leandro i agree with you as you can see and sulav787 no i dont want tevez near the n/t and please inform me why you would like tevez back as he
A:in 65 caps rearly reproduces his club form nt the n/t (yes hes grat at club level but not at n/t level)
B:does not combine with messi and messi is not coming off the field of play bar injury
C:tevez has said he does not want to be part of the n/t setup.

I think we dont have to be harsh on players on the basis of one match performances, Higuain has scored continiuosly for us in last 6 matches if i m not wrong. or in Qualifiers atleast . He is one puzzle in the fantastic 4 he links great with the other 3 they all seems to have a telepathic connection, Ofcourse Higuain is haveing a tuff time at madrid but as i said before Form of players will vary it will take some games again to get back to great form. It happens to all players.

tevez being the highest goal scorer in epl had to warm the bench because of mancini's stupid ego... and during the bayren match he was asked to warm up over and over again just to humiliate him..... even tevez also said he was treated like a dog
we need players like tevez as a back up .... he can make a differnce... when higuain or dimaria or aguero have a bad day he can come in as a sub.. if it was madrid yesterday higuain would have been subbed right after half time..

People need to chill it with all the hate for Higuain. The guy has scored almost every game he plays for Argentina. Yes, he is having tough times in Madrid, but that has been the case for the last 4 years, yet time after time, superstar purchase after purchase, he is still there. When Higuain is started in a regular basis he is a beast. Also, he did not play BAD, infact he started the first goal by perfectly heading the ball down to Messi. The 'Parked Bus' defense is not where he shines, Higuain is a running player that works best with space. Show some respect!

Tevez is a tool. His attitude is worthless.

Barcos is good, as is Licha.. I am not against a fair rotation of players. Perhaps if Sabella pressures Higuain to leave Madrid he would push for a loan deal.

And @Mr.D, right on. I also noticed that Masch was playing his 'Barca' position for most of the match, thats a very good observation on the fav 3 making this happen.

Braña's not available as he's playing for Argentina's volleyball team. I'd rather see Yacob get a shot, he's been good at West Brom this season.

I thought the defense was very good Romero was barely tested.

I said it before and I'll say it again: Argentina's defense is noticeably better when Argentina starts H*A*M because it forces the opposition deeper, allowing Argentina's defense to play higher up the pitch and creating a much smaller space between the back 4 and Mascherano, allowing him to help out. There were a couple of times where Mascherano was the deepest player for Argentina and I though he was excellent in the match. With the high backline and Mascherano in the DM role Argentina is able to utilize his entire skill set.

Great performance By our Argentina. was awake late night to watch whole game. It was worth it. Defence was on top all the time. Zabaleta made crucial blocks at 0-0 and when we scored. Garay showed his fitness and speed. we just need to look at their trio of attacking talents to measure it. Liked the look as suarez's frustation and when he tried to score from midfield. Also mascherano looked like running the midfield for long with precise long passes. Lets go for win Against Chille

Hmmm any team in SA Qualifiers would be tuff to play at their home whoever it is. So Chile too will be tuff, We cant expect to beat them like we did in our Home, but they r an Attacking side which may help us to play attackingly too.

And one new player who is getting gud review in EPL is West Broms new signing CLAUDIO YACOB every one here also have been saying nice about him, I feel he is the player who may can Replace or be substituted for mascherano, Seems like a ruthless tuff guy.

Barcos looks very good, I hadn't seen him play before, but although he didn't have much time to do anything - the match was already closed - I'm starting to like him. He's got very good height, seems to be fast and have good feet. I agree in that he may be in next time in place of Higuaín, and although I don't think Higuaín played bad (but rather that the match didn't go his way like it can happen to any player), I suppose this change would validate Sabella a little more as an active coach who won't hesitate to move some names around.

I'm still not too fond of the defence but no goals for Uruguay means they did their job. I believe they have been working stop pieces A LOT, they show some improvement there, and knowing that Sabella is more of a defensive coach than anything else, then I'm sure he'll be taking care of this. Still can't like Rojo, but he was OK.

Didn't like Di María so much either but he was instrumental to the goals; can't complain. Only thing I'm sure was pretty bad was the midfield - they lost several balls; sometimes they pass the ball without paying enough attention to the rival's movements and I hope they take this match as a warning of the danger this represents. Gago is solid but Di María is too offensive and Mascherano can't be there all alone. It hurts to say it, but we need Braña back soon!

And kudos to Messi for his second goal! He displayed that not only is he fast and skilled, but also very witty. He said he's been practicing free kicks and it sure shows.

To conclude, the match developed normally and was the typical Argentina-Uruguay with lots of friction. If you got bored many times during the match rest assured it's the norm. Now, tuesday against Chile is a whole different story - I remember last qualifiers, their press had predicted an inevitable loss at our hands, and they finally won, which led to Basile's resignation. Naturally that team hadn't had this streak but still crossing the Cordillera always brings unusual matches and results. Let's enjoy we're on top of the table!

@A.Khan, yes Uruguay really miss their capt, Diego Lugano and it makes a hole for DiMaria crosses and Messi and Kun can take this advantage. But overall our performance improved in the 2nd half. No more mis-positioning from Dimaria is the key and playing patiencely. And beside superb performance by Messi, the maestro. I would not be surprised if we saw a barcos for Higuian switch or Guinazu for Gago, Chile have always been very rough towards Argentina. We always win in the end because we're superior in every way but it will be a brutal game, and i know we'll come out with the 3 points.

P.S if we get another clean sheet, then we will really be making progress!
