Lionel MESSI, Javier MASCHERANO and Alejandro SABELLA spoke to the press after the match.
Here is what Lionel MESSI had to say:
"It was difficult as we knew it would be against Uruguay, but we knew we had to win... it was great to play here, in Mendoza. I was always happy playing for Argentina. Now that we are winning, things are easier and it's easier to enjoy. Chile will be very difficult because they have a great team and they need to win. It's going to be complicated. This win is very important and if we win in Chile, we would take a huge step towards our goal of making it to the World Cup."
MESSI's comments on the free kick:
"The goalkeeper was ready to come out to claim it, I knew the wall was going to jump. Luckily it went in."
Here is a quote by Javier MASCHERANO:
"I couldn't play together with MARADONA, but to be able to play with MESSI is a privilege."
Here is what Alejandro SABELLA had to say:
"We were expecting more or less the match that ended up developing. Uruguay were dangerous on the break. Our players kept their cool. Before the start of the 2nd half we knew we had to keep doing what we were doing and stay alert."
SABELLA asked about the defensive performance:
"I think we defended well. We showed a lot of teamwork. Our forwards were our 1st defenders."
"We want to keep our moderate optimism. The same I expressed before we played against Paraguay."
SABELLA on Lionel MESSI:
"What MESSI does... I don't know... we need to find a new adjective in the Real Academia Española dictionary to describe him."
"We have a great bunch of people here and we talk a lot about what we need to do and how we need to do it. We don't have a lot of time to work but we are seeing the results of the work we are doing when we have the chance."
