Quotes by MESSI, SABELLA and MASCHERANO

Lionel MESSI, Javier MASCHERANO and Alejandro SABELLA spoke to the press after the match.

Here is what Lionel MESSI had to say:
"It was difficult as we knew it would be against Uruguay, but we knew we had to win... it was great to play here, in Mendoza. I was always happy playing for Argentina. Now that we are winning, things are easier and it's easier to enjoy. Chile will be very difficult because they have a great team and they need to win. It's going to be complicated. This win is very important and if we win in Chile, we would take a huge step towards our goal of making it to the World Cup."

MESSI's comments on the free kick:
"The goalkeeper was ready to come out to claim it, I knew the wall was going to jump. Luckily it went in."

Here is a quote by Javier MASCHERANO:
"I couldn't play together with MARADONA, but to be able to play with MESSI is a privilege."

Here is what Alejandro SABELLA had to say:
"We were expecting more or less the match that ended up developing. Uruguay were dangerous on the break. Our players kept their cool. Before the start of the 2nd half we knew we had to keep doing what we were doing and stay alert."

SABELLA asked about the defensive performance:
"I think we defended well. We showed a lot of teamwork. Our forwards were our 1st defenders."

"We want to keep our moderate optimism. The same I expressed before we played against Paraguay."

SABELLA on Lionel MESSI:
"What MESSI does... I don't know... we need to find a new adjective in the Real Academia Española dictionary to describe him."

"We have a great bunch of people here and we talk a lot about what we need to do and how we need to do it. We don't have a lot of time to work but we are seeing the results of the work we are doing when we have the chance."

Hmmm every game we won there is something happens to the opponents. Against Brazil it was not their full squad, Against Germany the Red card, Against Uruguay it is luganos departure, Its not fair we have to credit our team we have improved a lot from the days of Maradonna and batista and even Basile. Sabella have been so different in his approach he is a Defencive minded coach but we didnt had that type of a coach for long time, Every time we were playing beautiful football with great Legendary players still we were lossing . So lets see what Sabella can do with his Defencive minded approach and his set of players. Some of his player selections r suspetious but some r very gud too, Guinazu,Fernandez, etc etc been really gud for us and he is the one who introduced the TWIN TOWERS and the Fantastic 4(They had played before under Maradonna and Batista but was not actively used like Sabella) And another one is the Midfiled duo of Mascerano and Gago,Lets see what gonna happen.

@ el principe:

I didn't doubt the four strikers, but I didn't like the approach of the game. If Uruguay was the same Uruguay from last year, we would've faced tons of problems. They were just too cowards to attack.

I am not taking anything from the great performance, but sometimes you can't take such a risk.

Vamos Arhentina. This is what Messi is capable. I am very lucky to see two previledge players (MARADONA AND MESSI)in one lifetime. i am also thakful to Mr. Sabella for giving a new formation to the team , so that we are getting a different Messi for last one year with the bluewhite jersey. God is really wanting Arjentina to win the cup after prolonged 28 years. I request to all team members, support staffs and also the AFA to keep things straight and simple for the coming days.

@la-pulga. Alejandro Sabella wins our heart today. Javier Zanetti comeback at N/T will be awesome, he's still at his best and Inter Milan key n captain player.Deserve a call but I doubbt Sabella will call him as we have too many extra ordinary resources.Ever Banega is injured

"What MESSI does... I don't know... we need to find a new adjective in the Real Academia Española dictionary to describe him." He is from another planet a complete package, hard-worker , heart-breaker , joyful to watch, defenders nightmares , symbol of football, He is something else

Well argentina's performance tonight were amazing and the credit goes to the mentor alejandro sapella Messi once again proves the critics wrong for his performance against a solid team uruguay and the free-kick Ohh He is improving day by day in my opinion argentina played well tonight but there are a lot of great players left out for no reason i would like to see Nicolas gaitan in action and what happened to EVER BANEGA is he still injury ? by the way JAVIER ZANETI can still play and deserves a call.. Chile we are coming

A great achievement and showing the working in progress is running as the way it should be, however it's just one game although it can be celebrated and build self confidence. But we can be satisfy and proud-of, keep staying in the ground and keep improving. We are playing better today than before
I like the playing style with the exchange of player positioning and our ball possession although sometime certain i.e DiMaria are holding the ball too much and few Rojo are so often easily letting go, but we learn how to be patience and keep cool.Zabeleta did well today as a water carrier with his movement and hard working; trust was there in the defense as knowing and covering each other runs smoothly between Masche,Gray,Fernandez,Zabaleta and Rojo.Up front no doubt is our best defenders and attacking machine.Well, this is our beginning for the new era for Albiceleste, Far to Go but Enjoy the journey by winning it. Vamos Argentina

Big possitive; It wasn't upto Messi to do everything today.Credit to Masch,Gago, defenders&to coach. They opened up new fronts with Dimaria,Rojo,Zab&sometimes with Kun.Messi in the right place to do the damage.Breaking the over-reliance of Messi.Sound's good.Good team work.
VAMOS ARGENTINA

For the fantastic four doubters. Here is the answer from Sabella for you, "Our forwards were our 1st defenders."
