The team lands in Mendoza ahead of match

The team has landed in Mendoza ahead of the match against Uruguay on Friday.

Greetings to LaCelesteBlog.com!

The team has landed in Mendoza and there were no changes in training, which means it will likely be a 4-3-3 against Uruguay. The last training session saw the following players take part in the 11:

ROMERO; ZABALETA, FERNANDEZ, GARAY, ROJO; GAGO, MASCHERANO, DI MARIA; MESSI, AGUERO and HIGUAIN.

It's all but confirmed that the line-up above will be the one that will line-up against Uruguay for the match on Friday. Argentina will be tested. Against Uruguay, it's always a physical match and while the players might be out for revenge for the 2011 Copa America, the team has to watch out.

Uruguay's attacking force is probably the second most deadly in the world (following Argentina), if not, they are on par. FORLAN, SUAREZ and CAVANI have all made the list for Uruguay, as have ABREU, HERNANDEZ (injured) and Sebastian FERNANDEZ. Uruguay's line-up is still unknown. They could go for a defensive approach and try to get Argentina on the counter attack or they could go for an offensive line-up from the beginning. Uruguay are missing players through suspension and injury. Diego PEREZ, Alvaro PEREIRA, Abel HERNANDEZ and Gaston RAMIREZ are all out for them.

Rodrigo BRANA is supsended for the match against Uruguay but would be back against Chile while Ezequiel LAVEZZI is out injured has replaced by Juan MARTINEZ.

Argentina currently tops the South American World Cup Qualifiers table with 14 points while Uruguay is fourth with 12 points. Both teams are coming off 1-1 draws. Argentina drew with Peru 1-1 while Uruguay drew 1-1 with Ecuador. Prior to that, Argentina won 3-1 against Paraguay while Uruguay lost 4-0 to Colombia. The pressure will be on both teams. Argentina will want to stay top of the table and will be playing at home and Uruguay need the points.

Argentina will likely be wearing the dark blue jersey, as they did against Germany earlier this year.

@kenneth. Try a 3-5-2 formation and get rid of your fullbacks. Very weak indeed. When playing online they give you select current squads so I use mascherano, Garay, and campagnaro. Gago and guinazu Dms. DiMaria and Lavezzi on the wings and Messi cam with Pipita ad Kun as strikers. I've had lots of success with it.

Ofcourse as @el Principe said no other team can Boast such formidable players at the Attack, we r guranteed of goals when those 4 play.

Saying that Its Higly risky to play a Gud team like Uruguay with only 2 Proper midfileders, We can only hope Dimaria do perfrom with more maturity. otherwise its Suicidal formation.

"Is this a revenge match for us? Of course!"

Those were the words of Argentina's goalkeeper Sergio Romero when asked about La Albiceleste's upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the reigning South American Copa America champions on October 12.

The last time Argentina met Uruguay it was a cold, dark moment where they watched Luis Suarez & Co. celebrate on their home turf before going on to win the Copa America in summer 2011.

That win was only Uruguay's second in 14 chances against their neighbors.

Romero made it clear that the match has not been forgotten by him or his teammates and sees Friday's World Cup qualifying match as a chance to get a little payback.

The headliner

The match will see Lionel Messi lead his team against the best team in South America; a team that fields one of the best attacking units in the region.

The 25-year-old captain is often criticized for not reaching the same heights for country that he does with Barcelona. However, the reigning Ballon d'Or winner plays a very different role for the national team.

On Barcelona he plays as a false nine who is the center of the attack and the focal point of the entire team.

When playing for Argentina, Messi is used in a much deeper, more instrumental role that sees him directing and creating attacks while taking a smaller role in scoring.

While the goals are fewer for his country, the playmaker is still just as important to the team's success as he is in Spain.

Can Uruguay's attack be stopped?

While Argentina have a stronger attack and probably a stronger midfield than Uruguay, they are much weaker in defense.

In fact, La Albiceleste have just one clean sheet in their last 14 matches. This fact was not lost on Luis Suarez.

"We must use their defensive weaknesses," he said to FIFA.com.

"We realise that we cannot make mistakes at the back because they will not show us mercy. But we have the potential up front to hurt them."

@ Dante Yes i play Fifa 13 but on the Xbox, the career mode (especially the international career mode esque thing) is fantastic, i led Argentina to a world cup haha..beat spain 4-3 and Germany 3-2 in the finals hat trick of Messi...Argentina's attacking in that Game is absolutely absurd but the defense is so slow and weak.

Uruguay has problems in defense, so will play with five defensive igrača.Forlan no power for the entire match, so this is an opportunity for revenge.

If we won the game against Uruguay and do look good, I think Sabella needs to keep playing the fantastic four (Di Maria, Messi, Aguero, and Higuain). The fantastic four is quite well known in Argentina now. They need to start more games together.

Check this out.

http://www.ole.com.ar/seleccion/titulo_0_790121043.html

We do have a high expectation on our new baby born fantastic four. Why baby born? Because they haven't been playing together for that long. I just looked at the stats, they have just played together FOUR times in the past and the result it 3 wins and 1 loss (PK loss). 3 wins from:
1. Argentina Ecuador (4-0)
2. Germany Argentina (1-3)
3. Argentina Costa Rica (Copa with Batista) (3-0)

The only loss is from Argentina Uruguay (Copa with Batista) (1-1)* which was considered a draw.

Those games were either they all started the game or had one of the fantastic four playing as a sub.

We scored 11 goals and conceded just 2 goals in 2 games.

If we keep playing these 4, I think they have a chance to look really really good. Who else in other national teams have as good fantastic four as us? Germany have Ozil, Podolski, Muller, Gomez. Spain have Torres, Silva, Iniesta, and Fabregas. Holland have Huntelaar, Robben, Sneijder, and Van Persie. Brazil have Oscar, Kaka, Hulk, and Neymar. Uruguay have big 3 not 4. Who else? No one look as good as Di Maria, Messi, Aguero, and Higuain. Not even Barca or Madrid fantastic four.

@ Tonoy:

It isn't a smart move to play 4-2-4 against Luis, Cavani and Forlan. Three killer strikers, who is playing counter attack is just suicidal. It'll be our 4 average defenders plus Gago and Mascherano all night long.

I just hope Mascherano doesn't have to tackle hard or stop a counter and get a red card.

Sorry, but with 4-2-4 I will never be optimist !!

Well…

Sabella his best 11 in this lineup, as this isn't the first time he uses the same names for an attacking approach.
The only problem for the starters once again is our side-backs, if he could tune this part of the engine, the HP would increase in an impressive way!

Zabaleta + Rojo / Gino + Clemente

Zabaleta is slow.
Rojo is lost.
Gino is in probation.
Clemente is outdated.

As for the rest of the selection, few names are questionable?

Brana, Maxi and Sosa is back!

I would add Tino Costa in place of Brana and Gaitan in place of Maxi.

What remains is the players performances and their heart on the pitch + a smart move from Sabella!

I think the biggest challenge will be for Masch, y Gago to see if they can stop the counter attack and if they can connect the ball for our counter attack well from the defense to offense. The team finally knows each other well! For once i won't be super stressed out if Uruguay scores first b/c under Sabella it seems as if we have a decent record coming back from behind to win it.

Another 4-2-4 formation, can't he learn or what ?!
Our sides will be exposed and with the kind of Uruguay players it'll be bad for us.

Our only chance would be that Tabarez would be so scared to attack, but even that can result in a 0-1 loss !!
