Argentina stole a point in Peru to stay at the top of the South American World Cup Qualifiers group.
In a match where Peru attacked from the beginning and really pressured, Argentina literally stole a point in Peru. We knew it was going to be hostile from kick off. Fans threw rocks at the Argentina team buss a few days ago which set the tone for the match. A hostile crowd which made their opinions heard following every whistle. Peru were awarded a penalty kick after DI MARIA decided he will start playing karate inside the penalty area. Peru were awarded the penalty kick and Sergio ROMERO came up huge for Argentina as he saved it, leaving the score at 0-0 with Peru with constant possession of the ball.
The referee didn't help either as he was in the way of an Argentina pass. The blocked pass by the referee landed to a Peruvian player who was fouled which lead to a well reheared free kick and it's 1-0 Peru. Argentina managed to fight back and find a goal through HIGUAIN. Federico FERNANDEZ found Ezequiel LAVEZZI who in turn found HIGUAIN. And the game is tied at 1-1 heading into half time.
The second half started a bit more evenly but as the game went on, Peru kept having more and more of the ball. Peru hit the post off a counter attack and Sergio ROMERO had to make a great save from very close range. Fernando GAGO had his head completely squashed and was stretchered out and replaced by Pablo GUINAZU. SABELLA made one more change after when he brought in Enzo PEREZ and off came Ezequiel LAVEZZI, who had a good game. Late in the second half, DI MARIA came off and Maxi RODRIGUEZ came on as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
