Possible same line-up against Peru

The rumored line-up against Peru is that it will be a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3, the same players who started against Paraguay, with two changes.

With Rodrigo BRANA suspended for the match against Peru, Javier MASCHERANO makes his return back and will be in the starting XI for the match. The other change is that Pablo ZABALETA will likely get the start ahead of Hugo CAMPAGNARO.

If it is a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3, that means SABELLA will start with DI MARIA, LAVEZZI, MESSI and HIGUAIN. This is just the rumored line-up.

I just finished reading reports about our squad in Peru. The bus was pelted by stones and bricks. Bus windows were broken however all players and coaching staff were unharmed. Peruvian security for the argentine squad have been upgraded all the way to the hotel where they are staying. Peru is very desperate due to their losses and the fact that they might not qualify for the world cup is heavily felt in that country. All their media says, "stomp on the flea", "bring Messi down"! I feel they will play dirty and have the tightest marking on Messi. Expect Messi to have an "off" day people. They might even injure him. The squad, especially the forwards need to bring their A game as Messi will be heavily marked. The roar of 80k + fans doesn't help either. I predict a 1-1 or 2-2 draw or 1-0 victory for us. Their main gameplay is once again stop the flea and find Farfan in the Argentinian box. Vamo Vamo Argentina. Great test for the squad!

Hello all,

- I am a new member here, I support Argentina since 1990, I was 7 years at that time, it's an honour for me to meet all the fans of Albiceleste here :) also I would like to thank the owner of this website for the hard work to keep the fans up-to-date with the latest news !

- About today match, I read that Sabella maybe will use 4-2-2-2 formation ---> http://www.sbnation.com/2012/9/11/3315784/argentina-vs-peru-2014-world-cup-qualifying-preview according to my searches on the internet this formation is very good for the midfield ! lets and see what will happen !

Again nice to meet you all :)

Vamos Argentina

Just read that our team bus was hurled with stones. This shows that the Peru is not confident, we should use this chance to beat them with a lot of goals!

Well for me, Sabella is a Menotti type who's rather very strict with their principle, not so flexible to change and explore new approach / tactics; meanwhile the Tango players all have their individual talent and most of the time want to show-off it. Give them a plenty space to expose but stick with the play scheme and tactics. In a sense that exploring new approach also not making a team and players like circus team or tight them to certain pattern. Spain, Italy and Germany are doing very well in Euro. We can learn from Dutch failure in Euro due to satisfaction and lack of creativity after becoming the finalist in WC.
The selection of players by Sabella are still questionable although you can't satisfy all the fans as the manager he knows the best. It's not just the talent but mostly on attitude which are badly needed to built a team-work with good chemistry.

Agreed with Caniggia. I'd add that I think Sabella is already looking at players to round out the squad, even if they don't feature in a match. A good example would be the selection of Barcos. Just watching a guy like Barcos in practice would let Sabella know a lot.

Between now and the WC Sabella will have a good idea as to much of the squad, reserves, and emergency call ups.

The thing with Sabella is that although he might be subbing people out, his system remains for the most part unchanged. I think he has an idea of what he wants from each position and the default person he has selected to fullfill it somewhat. Then he tries different people for the same function as a way to see who can play it best. He has shown 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 and 4-4-2, but the role of each player remains about the same.

Hopefully, just hopefully - he will give more chances to others to fit into one at a time - once his default squad are performing what he wants in overall play.

We clearly need squad players who can sub for yellow card magnet Mascherano, Gago on a off day, Dimaria (injury magnet) and F*&^*'ing outright replace Sosa and perhaps Zabaleta (lack of class) and Campagnaro, Guinazu (will have grandchildren by 2014).

I wouldnt be too worried if our attacking trio were all absent, I'm sure there is enough depth in attack to replace them (again, I would expect Sabella to trial a different set of 3 players when the current squad is proven).

@Rasikaya Either goto www.fifa.com and look for the small local time in the world cup qulifiers fixtures or go to www.whoscored.com and look for the fixtures for tomorrow. It shows 2.25 GMT and as Sri Lanka is about 4-5 hrs ahead it will almost be in the morning of Wednesday over there.

For links: visit the usual suspects about an hour before the match : wiziwig, rojadirecta are the best bet or if you have google chrome, download a free extension called live sports.

By the way, can all the folks join www.reddit.com/r/soccer and get into the discussion there as there are very few number of argentina supporters. Might get traffic to this site too.

I agree with @ddr that much players have almost cemented their place and Sabella too have locked them in those particular positions. But Full backs and some substitutes r there to be fixed whicg he may do gradually i guess.

So far so good. After that is difficult to predict what will happen. There are few places those are fixed.

1. Messi, Pipita, Kun and Di Maria.
2. Masche, Gago
3. Romero
4. Federico, Garay

What we need to find are

1. Back up to Romero. Not many options there.
2. Full backs
3. Campagnaro, Coloccini, Burdisso for CB
4. A good #8. Banega, Biglia, Pastore, Lamela. More like a Lucho kind of role. Can be a little more attacking or defensive.

I did like that Pipita got a goal. He needs more. Di Maria is a good threat. He is the perfect decoy to Messi and that will be important to succeed in long term.

Come on Sabella it really and truely doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that Campagnaro SHOULD start because the guy has proven himself on the pitch so far and has helped the bank four to look much more organized and compact. Zabaleta should sit on the bench and take notes.

If true I like it. It shows Sabella is beginning to finalize a style and a system. This would be the first time Argentina would be playing with 4 attacking players away from home under Sabella.

Lavezzi is no Agüero but he filled in just fine on Friday night (in the first half at least, he disappeared a bit in the second half and was rightly subbed).

"I love the potential of the team with three forwards," Sabella said, "but I have to see our opponent. I love watching Messi and Aguero-Higuain. I want to play them all but the team has a general context."

Any way Tevez has said that he does not want to play for the n/t That itself summons that.
So there is no point in debating on him. But I do Love seeing him playing i m so glad that he has comeback to his best after somuch caios and hoopla.

Refering to the sort of results of past several games have brought the team is actually improving, they have won several games and Messi has scored in 4-5 consecutive games. The reality is that against Paraguay Lavezzi, Higuain and Di Maria provided other avenues of creativity. I think Di Maria will have a lot to offer the NT/ He scores goals and has fantastic awareness to create opportunities. I think the attacking quartet they have is fine. Aguero, Higuain, Di Maria and Messi, with backups such as Teves (if he wants to join again n get selected) Lavezzi and Pastore when he gets back to form. They play with Gago and Mache as 2 DM but need better defensive backs and wing backs who are prepared to come forward. Zabaletta could be one of those but Tango are really lacking reliable central back.

guys who has tevez proved wrong? as he has never been questioned for his fantastic play at club level from cort, manure, wham or manshitty.
at club level he is fantastic and n/t level hes been average despite playing fantastic football at club level at all times.
any way he says he does not want to play for the n/t.

I agree with @Dante Pastrana Tevez has already started to prove his Critics wrong. And he will keep doing that because he is talented one of the Best in the world when he is in full floww.Tevez is a Warrior he is already back with a BANG he has a knack of scoring that type of goals from outside the box.

That Tevez goal against Mexico was no fluke. Still one of the few Argies that can bang them in like a true #9. Carlitos knows he will play in world cup 2014. He's gonna prove it by achieving more success with ManCity!

Sabella is still trying to find the hidden "Man City Zabaleta" in the current underperformed Zabaleta :D
But I think better to try both, Zabaleta as starter than sub with Campagnaro. Give Zabaleta his final chance.

fanfrom78 yes he did not change the team vs ger but we did not deserve to win that game vs mexico, it was luck that fell our way that got us through.
their will always be exceptions to the rule but if a team is playing well why change them?
vs para we played a solid game and won well but vs mexico 2010 we had the gods on our side and it was obvious to most of us a train wreck was not far away and it happened.

That shows how stubborn Sabella is he do selects his favourites,If he likes someone he do stick with that player for long time, its not performance what matters i guess, Thats why no new full backs have been tried till now and there r somany other examples too Sosa,Brana etc etc may be some players r a Lucky charm for Sabella. Fair enough he keeps on winning thats gud whoever plays.
