Schedule for the rest of the year for Argentina

Argentina has 9 matches remaining in 2012 and we'll look at all of them.

Three friendly matches, four World Cup qualifiers and two matches against Brazil is what is left for Argentina in 2012. Here is the schedule:

Friendly: Argentina vs. Venezuela, in Argentina - July 26. Domestic players
Friendly: Argentina vs. Germany, in Germany  - August 15. Full team
World Cup Qualifier: Argentina vs. Paraguay, in Argentina - September 7. Full team
World Cup Qualifier: Argentina vs. Peru, in Peru - September 11. Full team
Copa Rocca: Argentina vs. Brazil, in Brazil. - September 19. Domestic players
Copa Rocca: Argentina vs. Brazil, in Argentina. - October 3. Domestic players
World Cup Qualifier: Argentina vs. Uruguay, in Argentina. - October 12. Full team
World Cup Qualifier: Argentina vs. Chile, in Chile. - October 16. Full team
Friendly: Argentina vs. Saudi Arabia, in Saudi Arabia. - November 14. Full team

The match against Venezuela should help SABELLA to find some new pieces to add to the team. Fixing up the left back and right back positions should be a priority at this point.

A match against Germany, even though it's a friendly match, should help us get an idea to see how Argentina matches up against one of the top teams in the world.

Two World Cup Qualifiers against Paraguay and Peru. Note that Sergio AGUERO and Javier MASCHERANO are both suspended for the match against Paraguay for having picked up their second yellow card of the Qualifiers against Ecuador.

Against Brazil, it's the Coppa Roca, like last year. Both teams will be made up of players that play in South America.

Argentina will end the first cycle of World Cup Qualifiers against Uruguay as the second cycle starts against Chile.

The team will end the year with a friendly match against Saudi Arabia.

i have said it many times before

Arg invented to passing game and we perfected it.
Totally agree about Pekerman's team in 06.
Even Bielsa' 02 team
its jus Pkerman made the wrong sub and Bielsa had some of the wrong players in the starting eleven.

Anyways we really need a CAM whether is Aimar or Romy , if we get that Messi will be really unleashed.

Exactly.everyone is praising Spain as if they invented tiki taka.we were playing better styled futball for long time.and no one even cares the way we played in 2006 wc everybody is praising spain. Sickkkk.its bcoz they r lucky to win also thats why.we didnt had the luck.but ours was not tiki taka.it was called the creol style which is more beautiful to watch .i dont like watching spain.but i do like watching Barca only bcoz of our own Messi.he makes barca more beautiful to watch.

I agree with @fanfrom.Spain is borring.but they r gud one of the great sides in the history now.but not the best. We played far gud football with keeping possesion in 2006 and in 2002.its unfortunate we didnt win any WC during that golden generation. But we were playing far beautiful futball than spains borring tiki taka.
We can beat spain.no team is invincible. But we have to keep rectifying our week areas.and splve it with gud players.which Sabella will do i guess.

Spain's performance was not so impressive as it was before. If they had Germany as their opponents in the final, i believe that the result would have been different! Still i liked Spain because they remind me about Argentina. If we have a counterpart in Europe, that is this Spain.

spain drew a number of games at the euros and lost there opener at the world cup, and Argentina destroyed them THERE NOTHING TO FEAR AND MASSIVLY OVER RATED

argentinas possession game in 2006 was light years ahead of spain the way you beat spain is suck them in then hit them hard theres no way spain could cope with are 4 gladiators up front on a counter attack

dimaria, kun, hig, messi argentina have looked yes disjointed but boy that attack is out of this world noone at the euros had anything like argentina has in the past 3/4 games

@Leandro
Good formation. But i would like Messi on the right wing as u said. Then he can operate through the wing as well as the centre. Also he can cut in and use his left foot. That is how he scores most of his magical goals!

I prefer Canterose or even Banega to Guinazu. Hope that Canterose will get another chance to prove himself (I think he has already proven.)

After all it is all up to Sabella!

We can't really look into games that were so long ago and compare them to today's team. Yes we beat Germany in a friendly not long before 2010 WC but then got eliminated by them. We also beat the world champions (Spain) with Batista and then we performed rubbish in the Copa America. Consistency under Sabella will be the positive points.

Canteros is coming back from an injury. Let him settle into club routine and play him in the Coppa Roccha games.

The same could be applied to Fabian Rinaudo who was performing very well for Sporting Clube until his injury curtailed his season.

Rodrigo Battaglia has played reasonably well for Huracan but needs to leave the Segunda ASAP. The problem is clubs in the Segunda want big money moves for players to Europe.

So Casasola an outstanding central defender wanted by Boca remains playing at a lower standard.

Jumping from the Segunda to Europe as Paulo Dybala has done is a big risk. We've lost too many talents this way.

Anyway the WCQ's are all crucial but it will be be the games against Germany, Uruguay and to an extent Chile that will set a benchmark on Sabella's prgress.

He has managed to fashion a more pragmatic side based on the counter attack.

Credit to him for at least making the counter attack a weapon but in order to play this way one needs an effective defence.

He has made some changes in the right direction in moving in younger players.

Mascherano needs to stay in defensive midfield (he is vulnerable aerially and still misinteprets the offside rule) but these games for which he is suspended is a perfect time to play Yacob.

People criticizing Spain as boring need to wake up. Posession football and a high press under Bielsa produced some excellent football and results 2000-2.

That the team failed in 2002 was down to an extremely long season for many players (you could say the same about the Spanish players but Argentina's physical preperation was much inferior and stil is), poor selections from Bielsa in omitting Riquelme, Aimar and Crespo for old timers.

Whereas VDB has managed to pick the right players. And finally luck. The team had enough chances to beat Sweden comfortably especially Claudio Lopez but somehow managed to miss them all and thus failed to progress.

The team needs to hang onto the ball better to protect a fragile defence. Spain have the better keeper(s) but their defence can be gotten at. They nullify it with their midfield.

Our midfield compared to 2005-6 is lost. Not helped by the inclusion of non entities like Sosa.

Sabella must work on this midfield to better keep the ball and ease the pressure on the defence and provide the creativity for the attack.

Banega needs to recover and perform consistently and Pastore and Lamela need to make their mark next season to grab his attention as he like Bielsa before him is reluctant to play a true 10.

One that I feel would help the attacking trio immensely and ensure Messi remains a threat closer to goal.

You have to win the midfield battle against anyone be it Spain or Surinam as was shown by Diego's mad selection against Germany in 2010.

The last two games both offered plenty of space between defence and midfield for Argentina to exploit. This won't be the case against European sides.

We will need a more patient posession based game to create space and oppurtunities.

As for the defence Fernandez is immensely promising and is a threat at set pieces but he needs first team football. His lack of it showed in the WCQ and friendly at times in lack of match sharpenss and fitness.

The other spot is up for grabs. Garay does not convince me at all.

Both fullback berths too are open. Zabaleta did not show his tremendous club form and Clemente was poor and besides will be too old for 2014.

The Copa Libertadores has unearthed Velez's Peruzzi and Boca's Sanchez Mino as well as Chilean based Matias Rodriguez. Two of the three are converted wingers and like Jordi Alba of Spain have tremendous stamina, love to get into the box and score as well as improving defensively as the season has progressed.

Tagliafico who needs to leave Banfield and Ansaldi who likewise needs to leave Kazan are other excellent options.

That speed and attacking threat will be needed against sides who will sit deep and remain compact and try to nullify Messi/di Maria coming inside as well as covering for the central defenders.

Both recent games saw both CB's dragged out wide due to the ineptitude of Clemente and Zabaleta.

So far for 2014 Sabella should only pencil in Messi, Aguero and Mascherano as certainties.

He needs to find two or three styles because god forbid but this being football anything can happen, certain players might not be available due to injury in 2014.

I have to agree with @rey. Spains game is soo borring to c sometimes they r brilliant too but we at 2002 and 2006 were beautiful to watch.ours was not tiki taka. But it was defenetly far more great for eyes than tiki taka which sometimes seems like sleepy.
And @Leandro (finally got it correct :p) i got ur point of putting Masc in Cb bcoz Spain dont cause areal threat.but realiticaly speaking Sabe'lla mostly like him in Midfield or at most may be he will play him as a sweeper in a 5 man defence which till now havent happened.highly unlokely to c him in 4 msn defence.we never know. But he do sometimes play 2 destroyers Masce and Brana or Masce and Guinazu. With Gago being the one to link up.and distribute.
Biglia hmmm hope he gets chance.

I think that to beat spain you need to capitalize on the wings. Their wing backs aren't as good as the rest of the team. I would put two penetrating wingers on each wing (Messi / DiMaria). Also take out Xavi and Iniesta through sacrificial, high-pressure, full-time, field-wide marking (Gago / Guinazu) where we sacrifice offense but we limit 95% of those two players contributing. Xavi and Iniesta can be silenced if always pressured to play a back ball when they receive it, where they go our man markers shadow. The rest of Spain is a good team, but besides Xavi/Iniesta its nothing spectacular. They also tend not to play tall forwards unless they go with Llorente or Soldado, in which case I would ditch Garay and put Masch in there as he is a better defender on ground plays. I would play them 4-3-3 where only the top 3 are attackers (Messi, Aguero, DiMaria) and the 3 midfielders are all destroyers.

So

Romero
Campagnero - Masch - Fernandez - Clemente
- - - Gago (on Iniesta) - Biglia (Defensive, zone, outlet passes, same role Pirlo plays) - Guinazu (on Xavi)
Aguero - Messi - DMaria

I think we all agree Spain are killing football. The Euro was won by the most boring team with a ridiculous formation of 4-6-0. Now can we counter attack that?

can someone please for the love of god viral attack argentina world cup blog that site becomes more retard by the day

i fail to see how Argentina is retarded football and i fail to see why this site cannot see its own stupidity in its articles

we didnt win anything with possession football and are possession football was WELL AHEAD OF SPAINS

so spain have it right yet Argentina were doing this decades earlier and it led to nothing

Argentina of 2002 had WAY BETTER POSSESSION THAN SPAIN DID THIS YEAR ,argentina of 2006 had way better possession of the ball than spain did this year

did we win anything NO

Hmmm tuff matches and somany matches gud for us.the players can gel up well as sabella mostly uses regular players it will help.hope he will sort off the weak links of us soon this year only.i m looking forward to Germany and Uruguay encounters.especially Germany. And i agree with @fanfrom everybody is now saying to play like spain. But Sabella has said he wont copy Barca. We r seeing a different Argentina now.not our old creol style futball which is the ancestor of tiki taka.but no pblm a changes was needed bcoz we havent won that much since 1994 by playing beautiful style.

Not saying to play defencively or parking lot. But gud counter attacking.something like Germany and Real Madrid.

The Germany game will be a test, we seem to beat them in friendlies but not in competitions. I would love to see Messi play against England, I don't think he has yet.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well id argue that if diego had done a 442 number on germany in wc 2010 we wouldnt be saying this

argentinas 1-0 win was more impressive than the result by germany in the wc as diego let us down big time

he thought we would simply out score them witch was madness if veron was in the midfield and back line was in balance we would have done the exact same thing we did in the friendly but better with the team being together longer

this is what i like about sebella he is building a team very like diegos but with a extra man in the midfield and a back line that isnt unbalanced

il say till i die if diego had done this we would have been in the final

bardisso-demi-samuel-henze
-----------masch-----------
-----veron---------------dimar
-------------messi--------------
----------hig--------tevez----------

we wouldnt have had a problem the 1-0 win in germany was a fantastic performance after the result in uragauy we looked fantastic as a solid counter attack unit

Three matches will be played with domestic players means Canterose may play these three matches and this could be a doorway to the national team for him.

Mascherano's absence is a blessing in disguise. If Sabella exclude Sosa also in that match, I hope we can see a good midfield backing Messi.
