SABELLA on TEVEZ, RIQUELME, PASTORE and more

In a recent interview, Alejandro SABELLA spoke about Carlos TEVEZ, Juan RIQUELME, Javier PASTORE as well as other players and previous matches.

"We have to find alternatives for MESSI's game. For that we have players like SOSA, DI MARIA, HIGUAIN and AGUERO."

"I'm now going to follow TEVEZ more closely. RIQUELME is a very cerebral and an intelligent player. The two will be watched, like everyone else. At first, the team was down because of the Copa America but eager to take revenge and seek a victory. The victory against Colombia away from home, after trailing, did very well to the team. In the match against Chile, we didn't have much of the ball but we were very strong, the opposite of the game against Venezuela."

"Against Bolivia, it was a game where we had several chances to score, but didn't convert. Although we were not as explosive, we deserved to win. In the first half against Colombia, we were solid, but we didn't have an offensive game. In the second, we were quick to get creative and scored."

"I often think about putting MASCHERANO as a CB, it's like having two players in one. He reads the game very well. There's also the possibility that PASTORE or DI MARIA play as as third forward."

It has also been confirmed that Argentina's World Cup qualifier match against Ecuador will be played in Buenos Aires at the Monumental. In October, when Argentina plays against Uruguay (World Cup qualifier), the match will be played in Mendoza while the qualifier against Paraguay in September will be in Cordoba.

@ pablo.d

- I really don't wanna go over this argument again, but Tevez had his days with the national team in those 60 Caps (ex. Mexico in 2010 and Spain after the world cup)

- Rising that issue about playing for the national team without being worth it, then I want you to tell me any other player aside of Higauin (23 caps, 12 goals) who actually made a difference when playing with the national team.

- And to say that he isn't a team player, then do watch his games with Man City and before that with Man Utd he was the key reason for many games to provide the others with what they need. And add to that his heart which half of the national team players lack.

Ps. I am not calling for him to be included in the national team YET, but he isn't a bad option after all.

no sorry, I still stand by my desicion to never include him in the NT. He's been given WAY too many chances and always failed. it's time to move on from Tevez

tevez has never been in bad form but he does not fit into the n/t.
he is not a team player and its all about him.
over 60 caps and very few that he has done any thing worthy of him being kept in the n/t and always remember his currant form is the same as his form for the last 5 years-awesome at club level but very average at n/t level.

Was he joking when he said "For that we have players like Sosa, Di Maria ... etc" ?!

He is out of his mind if he thinks that Sosa would be as good as Di Maria, Higuain, or Aguero in their worst days.

I agree with @Caniggia ...SOSA is an Average Playeer at his Best...We dont have any pblm with SOSA if there was no Alternative...but the Pblm is Argentina has Sooo many alternatives for Him But Still Sabella Chooses SOSA thats the Pblm...I donnow what is the reason...why dont any Argentine Journalist ask about SOSA to Sabella???We Need one more Player in our 4 Man Attacking With MESSI,DIMARIA,And AGUERO/HIGUAIN one man is still needed to get into Sabellas head who he think can replace SOSA ...Who will be that Guys any guesses??..SALVIO,MAXI RODERIGUEZ,GUANZUO,or any other Estudiantes Player hmmm?? but frankly speaking The Defence and Defencive midfielfd has already been slowly started to improve...with the removals of DEMICHELLIS and BURDISSO etc etc..oh goshhh Burdisso is gonna come back HELLLLLL..

Please take Requelme for the next game against Brazil. then we can see more goals from Messi. He needs a midfielder like Roman... Lets hope our coach will take him.

@Leandro, that's what I used to think. But watch him closely in the matches he has played for the NT. If I had the time, I'd put a compilation of all the times he has given the ball up cheaply. He loses way too many balls trying to pass and I hardly see him win back the ball for us. He runs around and hustles a lot - but his ball control and passing is piss weak. When NT coach decides to put him in the playmaker position, it further proves there is something very wrong about the coach.

I could live with Sosa if he was used as a well balanced player (which he is) where his role is to defend 50% and help the attack. The problem we have with Sosa is that he is being used as a playmaker, which clearly he isnt. If we used him like Keita is used in Barca he would be beneficial to the national team. He is tall, strong, decent with the ball on his feet and calm under pressure.. but thats it. If we used a 4-4-2 with Sosa on the right mid sacrificing himself (like Jonas G. does) then I have no problems.. is there better alternatives, sure. The real issue is the lack of creativity and control in mid.

Well, as long as he consider Sosa as Messi's alternative we got to live with this nightmare for a long time to come. Maybe to the last day of Sabella as the NT coach?!

God save us all...

Honestly i have given up trying to understand what sabella is trying to do.
I have accepted i will just sit back and bit my tongue. The illogical side of mean hopes that sabella is keeping his cards and close to his chest and being purposely vague....OR he is completely lost and has no idea what he is doing...
I will be honest i saw his expression in the venzuela game he looked absolutely confused...and that look worried me. As a player when you look and see those sort of mannerisms as a coach are simply terrible for morale.....i will maintain my stance that we really cannot see his plan until 3-4 months before the world cup. The line ups for argentina changes alot..often stars appear that no one anticipates. So in that respect i understand.

For mentioning Sosa in the same sentence as Di Maria, Higuain and Aguero - Surely there's a translation error somewhere??? Please? An early April Fool's prank??

Sometimes I feel Sabella is playing mind games or politics games when he speaks of such player. Because clearly is his actions are way different. Maybe defense he may make a little sense but attacking wise he always hold back sigh... Hope things sort out soon tan later

I donnow when the things he speaks gonna be applied....and great SOSA he thinks as an alternative to Messi???? Oh my godddd.....nothing to say...but i m glad to here about pastore ,riquelme, tevez, but when are they gonna be played is another question,,,,and one thing is true we need to find an alternative to messi...we cant be over reliant on messi all the time....we have to have a plan when he is not available....players like pastore, lamela, etc etc need to be played and messi sometimes need to be substituted and given some rest....

There is no reading Sabella in terms of selection and positioning of players. If he had said to use Pastore as a Winger or middle man then I would understand but a forward??? I'm so over this now
