National team veteran, Fabricio OBERTO will remain in the NBA for another one year after signing with the Portland Trail Blazers, according to ESPN Marc STEIN.
The 35 years old centre has rumoured to have turned down several offers from Europe as he was determined to play in the NBA. Whilst at the same time, the Blazers were also looking for an experience big man to cover Marcus CAMBY as they’re other options at centre, Greg ODEN and Joel PRZYBILLA are sideline due to injury.
Seems like a good match up to me, well at least until the return of ODEN and PRZYBILLA.
I don’t expect OBERTO to play that many minutes as he used to and even his numbers is non that great to speak of. But I do think this promising team could use some like him to give some edge from the bench.
I know this well from those four years he played with San Antonio Spurs. You can expect him to get the dirty job done in order for others to stay relevant during a game. That’s what OBERTO is all about, selfless service kind of player.
On a personal note, I think the Blazers are exciting team to watch. I like to see how OBERTO will mix it with the likes Brandon ROY, Nicolas BATUM, LeMarcus ALDRIDGE, Andre MILLER and Rudy FERNANDEZ (provided he stops being a whiner about returning to Europe).
This means the Western Conference might have three representative from Argentina (OBERTO alongside Manu GINOBILI and Luis SCOLA) in the play offs, provided if their respective teams make it.
