David TREZEGUET on ICARDI: “He is the future of Argentina”

23

David TREZEGUET spoke about Mauro ICARDI.

The World Cup and Euro winner spoke about Mauro ICARDI, why he shouldn’t be compared to Gonzalo HIGUAIN and more. Speaking to Tiki Taka, here’s what TREZEGUET had to say:

“ICARDI is a great player. He certainly has a big margin to improve. To compare him with HIGUAIN is not right. HIGUAIN is more mature. They are different ages.”

“But we’re still talking about a great player that sooner or later will get in the Argentina starting line-up. He will be the future of their National Team.”

“Inter have done well to hold on to him. He’s a unique player for them. He is showing that this season. I think he looks happy now. He’s working a lot for the team. He’s an important forward for the present but especially for the future.”

Regarding the comparison between ICARDI and HIGUAIN, here are some statistics comparing the two this season.

  1. Thanks to those who liked my post. I just wanted to explain my point of view. I want the best for the team. In 86 I was 3 years old, in 90 I was 7 years old and poor because of the oppression and a looming war, we couldn’t afford food much less a TV. I was a football junkie who couldn’t watch it or play it because I couldn’t afford a ball so had to built something that looked like a ball. I only got glimpses of Maradona that made me a fan of this team. In 93 I moved to Germany so I got to witness my first World cup. My parents wouldn’t let me stay up to watch games in the night because I had to go to school early in the morning so I silently watched games on mute. Heartbreak! Heartbreak also in 98 which was somehow smoothened because my favorite player Zinedine Zidane won the World cup. I was too young too see Maradona on his peak, I like Roberto Baggio, I liked Redondo, I liked Batistuta, I liked Ronaldo, I liked Le tissier, Cantona, Maldini, etc…but Zidane was my hero and Maradona’s Successor. For me the 10 is football! I admire skill, intelligence, I like to give am assist more than scoring a goal. The 10 is the brain, the leader. Then something strange happened, my favorite team produced 2 players:
    Riquelme who was Zidane like.
    Aimar who was Maradona like.
They instantly became my favorite players. It was magical whenever they played together. They were meant to play together but injuries and our coaches kept them apart like the Capulets and Montagues kept Romeo and Juliette.
I look up to them like big brothers.
2006 I was very confident we would win, that team was a team, although missing a legend in Zanetti made me less confident. I truly believed that no one could beat us. We played great innovative football, many teams took our style and won titles with it.
we were screwed by the referee and our coach. There will never be a bigger heartbreak than 2006 for. If we had beaten Germany we would have become champions, that is what I believe.
    winning by playing beautiful football.
You can’t change the past so you must accept the outcome and move on.
We had Messi, Aguero, Higuain, Di maria who are favorite players of mine to look up to.
Messi after Maradona is the greatest footballer of all time, and if it weren’t for the injuries he suffers Aguero would be his rival.
I look up to them as my younger brothers.
I followed them religiously but maybe it is time to give them competition…so we can have a team where there is no infighting and we give 100% because we are not giving 100%, giving 100% is needed to have a chance to win.
Justice is needed, just do the right thing, names come and go but this team will stay forever. Team before players, coaches…team above all.

    • “Justice is needed, just do the right thing, names come and go but this team will stay forever. Team before players, coaches…team above all.”

      100% true.

    • yes i hear you…
coming from a political/socially awareness movement, i always find people who are not afraid to change as more loyal and sincere than those who afraid to see changes, and the latter are always the one who won’t change themselves and always live with what the world ready for them.

same as some fans here in mundo (because i’ve never been in any other football web). they simply don’t want to see changes; either afraid to see it or just already feel comfy with it. there’s nothing wrong in both. you can be a die hard or you can be just so so but still a loyal fans.
i don’t care where you all belong. i don’t even care if there is some brazil or france or portugal or german fans here.

i met a lot of people from all over the world; american, english, french, korean, other asians, latin, arabs, jews, and all of them were all great dedicated people who want changes for the better in the world, in our surrounding.
it’s fantastic experiences because you learnt cultures and way of live of numerous people. the way of thoughts were also different, subjective and sometimes funny, crazy or just silly, but that doesn’t separate us from our goal and objective, as long as we’re all dedicated, motivated and fight for it.

different opinions and ideas or even cleverness doesn’t separate us apart, it shouldn’t be. some of us were all university students, straight a’s and all, some of us don’t even go to school, not highly educated, or just poor (this is where i do belong), but is that going to make us superior than others? NO! well, if you think it is, then that’s why you’ve seen the world as it is these days. because people make boundaries due to these differences (+ religion, politics comes inbetween and screw it all), but now sadly sports as well (particularly football). well, it shouldn’t be.

i know, i sometimes do say something outrageous and stupid as well here in mundo to others or make just poor random statement, but this is where and how we grow up. friends fights, obviously, but we still care for each others. family fights, but they do care for each others eventually. so does couples, brothers and sisters, everyone else, but in the end we made up and be good to each others again, always.
i can see some sect in mundo as well. some experts, some smart asses, some funny blokes, and so on. should all the negatives be here? it’s not my call to decide. should all be about positivity, love peace and harmony here? i can’t say. to me, as long as you don’t make fun out of other races, religion, beliefs, sexual orientation, cultures and countries, then it can be understandable.

i don’t know about you and all who read this, but as argentina fans, i accept differences here in mundo. if nobody likes it, it’s not my problem. if anybody make fun of me, or you or anyone else, let them having a good time, who cares?

in the end, we’re all here for the love of the albiceleste, part of lives, have to accept, no hearts feelings, have fun, have sex, drink and get drunk, and fight!

  2. Who would lanzini and Parcedes replace…?! Our midfield is loaded … Only 7 can be on the roster
    Dimaria
    Banega
    Lamela
    Pastore
    Mascherano
    Biglia
    gaitan

Lanzini and parcedes are not better than any of these players! Not yet!!
And with icardi: 5/6 on the roster
    Higuain
    Messi
    Aguero
    Dybala
    Correa
    Pratto
Then there is still tevez, alario and icardi
Here maybe icardi can replace Pratto but he is a physical holding #9…. Which icardi isn’t…so then their is correa who plays more on the wing than a #9 so really he would replace dybala, higuain or aguero?! Please let me know who you think icardi would replace outta those 3?

    • easy: di maria, past and probably ban and upfront either kun or hig.

its time to be real any of those names above have let us down far to of turn when we have needed them the most and its time for others to be given a fair chance to see what they can do.

making it to 3 finals means nothing if you do not win them.

    • Lanzini & Parades are not better than any of these players!

Well, it’s your opinion. But I think, Pastore & Lamela after so much hype from the beginning of their career proved nothing so far for Argentina. It’s not like they didn’t get chance, but failed(specially Pastore). Parades can replace Pastore. With Parades we will get a set piece master from midfield. He can add something new to our team. Btw, I agreed about Lanzini. But don’t forget we have quality players like Enzo Perez, Perotti, Pereira, Piatti, Salvio & may be Vasquez too……in back line!

      • Its not always about who is a better player as if it was on paper we would be wow its about finding the best fits for the team but not for Argentine n/t coaches as they want names 1st akin to a playstation game except to many of our players are stick in ps3 mode.

  3. this is also well written for the change.org petition.

“On behalf of millions of Argentine football fans across the world, we are starting this signature campaign for the future of our beloved team.

We have been witnessing from many recent years that all past and present coaches of the Argentina National Team are calling-up only a specific group of players into the team. These players are generally 1987-88-89 borns (primarily the youth World Cup 2007 winning team). We don’t have anything against these players, infact, we appreciate the sacrifices and efforts they have made for the NT for years but they have done their best now. These guys have played 3 major finals in the recent past and failed in all of them. Argentina NT is trophy less for last 24 years, its incredible! It’s not that we have dearth of talent in the nation but our coaches seem to be affected by acute selection myopia – they simply can’t see beyond certain ‘specific’ names! These specific names are now becoming bigger than the team itself. They’re superstars for their respective clubs globally but never play good football for the NT. Our coaches, as mentioned earlier, are not including young talent into the team, players who are desperate to play and win for Argentina unlike these ‘galacticos’. We have young talents like Mauro Icardi, Manuel Lanzini, Leandro Paredes etc who can just walk into any NT of the world but not Argentina! Is there some sort of cartel which has been formed inside the dressing room? Or, is there a political lobby of players who want to see the same guys around again and again? Or, they’re just afraid of change and lost all boldness? We don’t know! But we want to change this trend.

We want inclusion of youth in the NT now, so that future of Argentina football can be saved. By the time, FIFA World Cup in Russia arrives 80% of the current team members will be more than 30! Do you guys believe we can win a tough competition like a World Cup relying on old legs and mentality full of baggage-of-failure? We all must sign this petition so that we can ring some sort of alarm in the deaf ears of AFA officials , coaches and even the Argentina president!

Please come forward and help save Argentina football”

    • Pablo: Very well said…..this is exactly how most of us feel and the entire world including non Argentina fans- have same perspective about our team. I keep hearing things like: “Di maria, Higuaín, Aguero…..again?, you guys are set for failure already, and disaster is coming soon”.

  4. How is possible that Sabella, Tata, and now Bauza like the same players and hate the same players?
For me it is clear as day that someone else dictates who gets called and who doesn’t.
Have you noticed that all of our coaches talk so nice and elaborate their ideas so well?
they say they will do this and that and we are left impressed thinking a smart coach is in charge hurray!
When it comes to implementing those things though, they do none of the things they said they will do.
They are either swindlers/liars or someone is not letting them do their job.

    This is my criteria:

    Age
    – if there are 2 players competing for the same spot that are pretty much even. I would go with the younger one because he will get better while the older one will get worse especially if he will be 32/33 years old in 2 years.

    Form/ Regular playing time
    – if a player doesn’t play for his club then I would tell him go find a club where you play or OUT!
No matter who that is, no one can rest on his laurels.
    – reward those who are playing great while punish those who are not playing great.
    – grab the momentum of in form players especially during the tournament.

    Competition
    – A player should always be able to make it into the team as long as he is performing better than the current holder.
    – a player should always be dropped if he isn’t performing well or less than a rival in his position.
    – no guarantees.

    Balance
    – it is right to have a balance in age, , pace, experience, positions, and the team fielded must have a shape, avoiding playing players out of position.

    Strategy
    – Build a team according to the strengths of the players. You can’t swim against the grain.

    Selection of 11
    – select the right players for the kind of football you want to play. If you want to play possession football don’t expect Biglia to thrive there because it’s not what he is. People abuse him but he is not to blame the coaches that want to make him something that he is not are to blame.
don’t expect central defenders to do well in helping attack because they are central defenders they know to defend not attack.
attack and defend as a team, not 6 defend 4 attack this is not American football.
Have role players on the team.

    Geography
    – you can’t say we must select home or European based players. We had the home based National team implemented by Batista and later continued by Sabella. When a player did well he was bought by an European team and became an European based player. According to that logic we must select a home based player then when he becomes an European based player we must drop him so we can select a home based player, there is no end to this.
For example Tagliafico deserves to be on the team no matter where he plays, end of the story.

the fans are divided into young players vs old players, European based players vs home based players, etc
It is said seeing some fans wish a young player to fail so that he’s favorite player doesn’t get dropped.
I want some of the players to be dropped because they had their chance, now is the time to step aside and let others try, maybe they can do it better, we don’t know until we have tried it, all we know is that the current players have failed so far.
I don’t want to ban them from the team, or to punish them, all I want is to hold them responsible like they do me at my job because if I don’t do my job right someone else comes and replaces me.
I don’t want to banish any of the players, they can come back if they do better then the players that are playing but some of them need to step aside and start over.

    • Ghostdeini, I subscribe.

it’s all exactly my thoughts. Thank you. I would like to describe all the things you wrote but with my English it’s very tough.

      • this is a great write. this should be highlighted in mundo all week.

        quick pick best phrase:

“How is possible that Sabella, Tata, and now Bauza like the same players and hate the same players?”

“they say they will do this and that and we are left impressed thinking a smart coach is in charge hurray!
When it comes to implementing those things though, they do none of the things they said they will do.”

“It is said (or sad?=travis) seeing some fans wish a young player to fail so that he’s favorite player doesn’t get dropped.”
