Tata MARTINO: “We had a better first half”

11

Tata MARTINO spoke about the match against Bolivia, Venezuela, Lionel MESSI and more. Here’s what he had to say:

“Venezuela’s having a good Copa America and we have to focus. If Venezuela man marks MESSI, we’ll try to counter that by playing him as a center-forward. We knew that MESSI would play 45 minutes, he feels better and that’s good for him.”

“We had a better first half, after that, it was difficult to enter the area. In the case of the two number 9’s (Gonzalo HIGUAIN and Sergio AGUERO), they played together pretty well. I liked it more than TEVEZ and Gonzalo.”

“People payed to see MESSI and he’s used to that.”

“Nothing changes for us because of the eliminations to Brazil and Uruguay.”

“With the boys, we’re always looking to continue growing. What comes next is different.”

    Higuain -Aguero

  2. I don’t know if Tata is playing minds games with Venezuela by discouraging them to man mark Messi. If so it’s fine. But talking about tactics before the game is not wise and kills the surprise element.

  3. Venezuela is an organize team, but I don’t see them keeping Argentina off the score sheet. If you look back at the group stage games; teams like Jamaica, Mexico and Uruguay had plenty of clear cut chances to score on them, and not to mention Cavani horrible miss right in front of goal. No team at this Copa America is going to keep Argentina blank, no team. The game in Boston will be like a home game for Argentina. Everybody on our team can score, which is something we have been lacking for a while.

  4. we have got to start with kun and hig upfront, we saw the difference it made and the space created upfront by having them both on at the same time.

    • I have said it here time and again that we need to play with 2 striker and the wingers need to go. I’m at least happy to finally see variations in tactics.

  5. “Nothing changes for us because ofthe eliminations to Brazil and Uruguay.”

Exactly. We have to focus on our mission. Venezuela conceded only 1 goal (Corona’s wonder goal) & scored 3 goals so far in this tournament. They are now a more organized team than before. It won’t be that easy like Bolivia game.

    I want this line up__(4-2-3-1)

    ________________Romero_______________

    Mercado_____Nico_____Mori______Rojo

    ________Banega____Mascherano_______

    Lavezzi_________Messi__________Gaitan

    ______________Kun/Pipita_______________

  6. Venezuela is going to pack the midfield with bodies. I would start Lavezzi and Lamela in this game just to give us width going forward.
